A New Apple Watch Feature Helps Me Through a Bad Day

The Rings! The unforgiving Rings!

I felt lethargic yesterday. I could not point to any specific reason, but my normal get up and go was just not there. I attributed it to missing an hour of sleep and continued with my normal exercise and chores.

This morning, after a solid 8 hours of sleep, I felt dizzy as I got out of bed. With my usual optimism about any physical complaint, I staggered to the kitchen to get breakfast ready for my wife, refill her pillbox and do the few other chores that every morning requires. I then grabbed a yogurt, added walnuts and frozen blueberries, then sat down to eat and check the news.

A half-hour later, I stood up and immediately felt dizzy again.

OK, body, you have my attention. I sat down and used my Apple Watch to check my heart rate. I took an ECG reading. All was normal, so I stood up again β€” yup, still dizzy, thank you β€” and went to get our pulse oximeter.

That oxygen reading could be done on the latest Apple Watch, but I still have a Series 5 version. The manual oximeter reported 99%, which is actually three to four points higher than my normal readings, so I’m not oxygen starved.
