A Quick Look At The Busuu Language App
Very quick, indeed
I’ve had several people tell me that they think Busuu is better than Duolingo. I tried Busuu, and while I’ll cheerfully agree that Duolingo has its faults, Busuu has much more wrong with it.
If you know a little Spanish, which verb would you use in “We are going to watch a movie”, ver or mirar?
Busuu says it’s “ver” and that I was wrong to use “mirar”. Busuu is not exactly correct about that and not exactly wrong either, but in any case, it offers no help to someone who chooses incorrectly.
When Duolingo says you are wrong, they also offer a direct link to a discussion about that question where you can quickly see if you are wrong (and why) or if Duolingo has erred. Sometimes you’ll learn that Duolingo didn’t accept your answer because it’s not true in all Spanish-speaking countries. That’s the case with “ver” and “mirar” when you are watching a movie — it depends upon where you are watching!
