A Very Dry Mouth in a Very Dry House
Ahh, winter: there is so much to love
I have a deviated septum. I didn’t always have this problem, but one day years back when I was very sick and very tired, I fell asleep on the toilet, fell off, and my glasses broke my fall into the nearby tub.
That hurt like hell, but as I am a Manly Man, I simply got up and stumbled back to bed while trailing muttered eff-words behind me.
A doctor later told me that I am a deviant. That is, my nose deviates. Or part of it does. Does it matter? The important thing is that since then, I tend to breathe through my mouth when sleeping, and that’s bad, especially if you are cursed with a forced hot air heating system.
Ahh, forced hot air. The most horrible heating system designed by man. It dries you out, and when it starts up, it first blows in outside air to clear out any explosive gases from the vents. On a 5 degree winter day, that will make you take notice!
We had forced hot air in our previous home, but as soon as I had the cash to do so, we had plumbers replace all of it with hot water radiators. Man, what a difference! But somehow, when we bought our present retirement home 32 years later, we forgot all about the horror of hot air. Replacing it here would be an equally horrible…
