AARP Should Dump Their Magazine
Keep the newspaper, though
Today I noticed a Facebook post by AARP which touted their benefits and mentioned that people forget to renew their membership.
Oh my, what a shit storm that stirred up!
First up, conservatives hate them. I certainly see why, although the support of liberal causes is all that I like about AARP.
Conservative or not, almost everybody dislikes AARP’s frequent nagging about renewals. The reminders come far too early and far too often. There is also the obscene waste of paper from the reminder mail. The Facebook post had many comments about that.
The “discounts” AARP brags about are a bit of a lie. Anywhere that offers an AARP discount will also have senior discounts. If they don’t discount to seniors, they surely are not going to honor that AARP card!
I and other folks I know, as well as some of the Facebook responders, don’t care for their magazine. The newspaper they put out is fine, although the cheap paper they use makes it hard to turn pages. The content is often helpful and the political coverage does present both sides. Conservatives seem only to want one side, so they may dislike the newspaper as well, but I didn’t notice any mention of it on Facebook.
