Ah, the disadvantages of a broad vocabulary. I used to play on-line Scrabble or Words With Friends (can't remember which; doesn't matter) with a cousin. I'd put down words that I use in every day life, words that I regularly see in print. He, a very shallow reader (though quite bright in his engineering field), would complain nastily that I must be cheating.

I'm certain that if he should happen to read anything I have written he'd think it artificial and pretentious.

I stopped playing Scrabble with him and I stopped caring when Grammarly insists that my paragraph needs to dumb down.
