All of what you said in this post echoes strongly with me. I never “fit”, but had the slight advantage of being male and the far greater advantage of working for myself as an expert in a narrow tech area. My “weirdness” may have caused me to lose some clients, but my expertise got me enough to live well.

It all certainly is a huge waste of talent. We can be such stupid people, so fearful of differences.
