Apple Books now has AI Narrated Audio Books

And they sound pretty darn good!

I am not a big fan of audio books. Compared to my normal reading speed, audio is glacially slow and my mind wanders as the speech drones on.

I’m not against audio; there are times when an audio book is nice to have. So when the TL;DR newsletter (highly recommended, by the way) told me this morning that the Apple Books app now has AI narrated books, I opened it and did a search for “AI narration”. I listened to a preview of the first one that popped up.

I really wasn’t sure this was AI. I downloaded the entire book and skipped around and even then it left me doubting that this really was AI narrated — it sounded too human! Much better than the AI speech used here!
