Apple Turns Nasty and Greedy Toward Employees
This will hurt them
There have always been disgruntled Apple employees, but Apple’s recent actions about working at home and their extreme reaction to union organizing activity by retail store employees have changed the mood and minds of many employees who once were quite happy with their employer and their job.
I think Apple is making a big mistake and that it will hurt them deeply.
The COVID Catalyst
When COVID first hit, Apple reacted quickly. They closed retail stores and sent both store and corporate employees home to work.
That action certainly pleased retail employees. Internet orders would increase while stores were closed, but Apple wouldn’t need all those store employees to handle that demand. Employees generally praised Apple for their quick response and generosity.
We could suspect that Apple did not expect the stores to be closed for long and simply didn’t want to risk losing trained employees. As it turned out, the stores remained closed, but Apple kept the paychecks coming and store employees by and large felt grateful.
Apple was being a good employer.
