Apple’s Home Services Guy Is Gone and I Hope He Was Pushed Out Because HomeKit Annoys Me

See that pile of HomeKit switches? Those are all things I once was using but now am not. The reasons vary; some were on lights that we took away, some were on lights we seldom turn on and only do so when standing right there, which makes a smart switch rather superfluous. One was just too far away from my router, which should have been resolved with mesh routers, but I tried that with two different products and neither worked well with my steel infused walls.

I do have places to use some of those again, but I have not yet redeployed them. Why? Because it’s not as easy as it should be and that’s to Apple’s shame.

And because I’m lazy. Probably more the latter, honestly.

I don’t necessarily blame Homekit issues on the person now exiting. He might have been aware of HomeKit disappointments but been thwarted by Apple bureaucracy and left in frustration. I would hope Apple would take a clue from that.

On the other hand, he may have never bothered to use any HomeKit devices at all and remained blissfully unaware of deficiencies. In that case, I hope he was fired and that Apple intends to…
