Apple’s Rumored Foldable iPad with E-Ink Confuses me

Call it the PlatypusPad

So the latest rumors speak of a foldable iPad with a “normal” screen and one for color E Ink. I didn’t know that color E Ink exists, but apparently so.

I’ve never owned an E Ink device, but I’ve used one and yeah, they are pretty cool for reading outdoors. So I’m not at all against that part of it.

Foldable? Well, I guess otherwise you’d need to put wires in a hinge, but really, doesn’t that make more sense? I’m thinking you open this like a book and the E Ink is on one side and the LCD or LED is on the other. If that’s what they are going for, I don’t see any advantage for foldable.

Or it could just be the front is E Ink and the back is regular. E Ink is low power so messages popping up wouldn’t drain the battery as fast. You wouldn’t need anything to fold in that configuration. But you couldn’t have a case, right?

Unless the whole thing can fold again to make a smaller, almost phone sized device. But man, that puppy will be thick with two screens folding and you couldn’t have a case that way either.

So I’m back to opening like a book and I don’t get the need for folding.
