Are they dunces if whatever information they need is at their fingertips?

I bet my grandfather knew a lot of log table data by heart (he was an engineer a hundred years ago) and used a slide rule for the rest. Was he a dunce for using a slide rule? Are engineers today dunces for using calculators and computers?
