I have often thought of turning some of my writing into podcasts, but that’s way more work than I want to do for what could be a very small return. I suppose I could do it with the voice tool here, but I find that a bit stilted and it is not my voice.

Apparently, OpenAI will soon — well, maybe soon — introduce a new tool they are calling Voice Engine. According to them, it can clone a voice with as little as fifteen seconds of sampling. So why haven’t they released it yet? Simply put, they want to make sure that this won’t be used to make fake recordings or, if it is used that way, that they can easily prove who created it.

I imagine all that is a bit challenging. But the generated audio is better than anything I’ve ever heard — listen to the examples the link above provides.

But for you and maybe for me, imagine how quickly you could paste thousands of pages of text…
