Your limited vocabulary has no effect on the words I can play.

In that instance, the word I played was nothing obscure (and gossamer surely is not obscure!) and happened to be something that had frequently appeared in recent news reports. I found it telling that my foe thought it unusual as that indicated not only a limited exposure to literature but also a sad disinterest in current events!
