Broken stuff at Medium..

It's not you. I don't know whether it's lousy programming skills, a crappy CMS, or a crappy CDS; it's probably some of each.

Whatever it is, the millions they have given out lately should have gone to fixing all that is broken and all that is clumsy.

A friend wondered if it's their CMS. It could be. When I had my business site, I wrote my own CMS because debugging other people's code is awful, especially when you have to chase down every library they use and every dependency. I wrote mine in Perl, which was good enough and fast enough to handle a half million monthly unique visitors on a Linode server.

I couldn't always do everything I wanted to do easily, but when I broke stuff, I sure knew where to look because it was all my code.
