By the way, my younger daughter, an otherwise quite normal 50-year-old woman, gathers monarch caterpillars before winter to feed and protect them on her screened porch from scavenging birds and whatever else might eat them before they go into their chrysalis stage.

When they come out as butterflies in the spring, she releases them, though never in the rain.

They never bump into things as they sail off.
