Don’t Pooh-Pooh Apple TV+

Where did pooh-pooh come from anyway?

Before I begin my ranting, how did a word like pooh-pooh ever get into our language? If you have never heard of it, it means:

(according to Merrimam-Webster):

intransitive verb

: to express contempt or impatience

transitive verb

: to express contempt for or make light of : PLAY DOWN, DISMISS

M-W informs me that first known use of pooh-pooh was in 1823 — the first I heard it was from my mother and that was many years ago, long before Apple TV. I don’t remember what had earned her contempt, but I understood her meaning without a dictionary’s help.

I haven’t specifically heard anyone use “pooh-pooh” in reference to Apple TV+, but I have read plenty of words that my mother would have called pooh-poohing. Snide words, like “it doesn’t suck as much as a headache,” or “I suppose it could be worse, maybe.”

On the other side, I like Apple TV+. It is true that I am a weird person, so my endorsement may not immediately spark your interest, but bear with me.

Do not miss Little America. That’s all I’m going to tell you. Do as you are told.
