Hmm. In 1997, I started a website that specialized in Unix. I wrote many hundreds of articles, let others publish theirs and it grew extremely popular. In the mid 2000’s it was hitting a quarter million unique visitors monthly.

I sold that website a few years ago because ad revenue was dropping fast and so were visitors. The popularity of Unix had passed to Linux and although I wrote about it a bit, my heart wasn’t in it.

Yet, I just googled for “Lost sco Unix root password” and an article I wrote there in 1997 was still number five on google results.

So I guess I’m an “authority”, at least for that, useless as it is for me. It sure hasn’t helped me for the stuff I write now!
