I agree — mostly, just as your subtitle expressed.

Comments, reads, and money are important to me in that order. The money only matters to me because I earmarked it for my tech toys. It lets me buy new far more often than my budgets would allow otherwise.

But the money also matters because what I see in my earnings has some relation to what others are seeing, and some of those others are struggling financially. Engagement won’t pay their rent.

In a better world, a world I think we’d have with a fair UBI, engagement might be enough for all of us, but engagement doesn’t pay the bills.
