I am on Mastodon because I enjoy the people I follow there.

I signed up as @pcunix@mastodon.online before Medium made its server, but I’d warn people to think twice before signing up with the Medium site. I’ve seen too many writing sites go out of business to want to be involved that way. Even without shutting down Medium itself, they could very well shut off the Mastodon instance at any time for any reason.

Mastodon itself may fade away, and any given instance can die, but if you enjoy it as I do, sign up with a big, well known site. Medium doesn’t quality and may never.

And there is no reason not to. No matter where you sign up, you can follow anyone at any instance.
