I had a good business for over thirty years, but because my wife became disabled twenty years ago, we were not able to put as much aside for retirement as we would have liked to. After closing the business because it was getting hard for me to continue doing quality work, I took a retail job with Apple for four years. I retired from that just this year, on a February 28th.

We definitely have enough money to last twenty years. It’s enough to last thirty if no big medical expenses come up. Am I worried about that? Sure, but what can I do? My wife needs my help much more than she has in the past and I’m mentally and physically too tired to work any more anyway.

Our kids do well, but we don’t want their help. Want or not, we might need it eventually. But by then, they’ll be retired themselves and might not have it.

There are no answers and unless politics changes radically, many seniors will have these problems.
