I have been reading “The WEIRDest People in the World” by Joseph Heinrich.
He asserts that conservatives see themselves through the lenses of their institutions. So, for example, we have Mike Pence telling us, “'I'm a Christian, a conservative, and a Republican, in that order”. Liberals facing a similar question tend to say what they believe in, not what groups they belong to. The distinction Henrich draws is individualism vs groups, tribalism vs. independence.
Those styles will see the world very differently.
I’m not convinced there is enough common ground to stand on.
