I Like The New Medium Home Page
Some don’t like it. I do.
Apparently, the emphasis on publications rather than authors on the new home page has upset some people here, both readers and writers.
You can still see the writer if you click in, so I don’t see this as so terrible. You can still follow any author you particularly like, and can follow any publication of theirs if you need to narrow the focus.
The new look emphasizes publications. If it’s your publication, that’s you. I like it that way because I stopped submitting to other publications some time ago.
But you may not like that. Most people still would rather be in the big pubs for the obvious reason that there’s more money there. Well, gosh, if you’ve gone that way, you’ve already buried yourself a bit, especially with the new infinite scrolling of the other authors.
I don’t like being buried in the crowd. I don’t like it for myself, and I don’t like it when I’m reading. If I read something I like, the chances are that I liked the author’s style, not the mass publication with all its other writers. I may not like most of the authors, so I’d prefer that those I do like used their own pubs as I do. Of course if the author has their own publication where only they write, I’ll follow that.
That’s me. Though it does seem to be the direction Medium is taking. and maybe other writers should think about that.
