I noticed that slow blink of cats when I was very young. I was lying out on our lawn and one of our cats was with me. I noticed that he blinked slowly at me. My interpretation of that was (and is) that he was saying "I trust you enough to close my eyes for a bit".

So I returned the sentiment and have continued that "conversation" many times with other cats.
