I subscribe to the people who I find interesting. I seldom read anyone else unless they’ve left an interesting and useful comment somewhere or on my posts.

I triage what I get in mail. I don’t read everything — most days, half of it or less.

As I once said to Smillew, “Ogley? I only read him when he writes something”, which means that (because I subscribe) everything you write gets read in email and I may or may not click through to Medium to read the rest.

I don’t feel I owe anybody anything and they don’t owe me. If I am interested, I’ll click through, and I expect everyone to do the same — or less.

I don’t owe claps, although if I have clicked through, the chances are very high. I don’t always comment. I sometimes add the posts I like the most to my “These are great posts” list.

And yes, I do care. I feel connected to many of the people I read.
