I Want More Safety Features in My Next Car

I think robotic driving is years away

Our current vehicle is a 2020 Subaru Forester. We wanted to stay with Outbacks, but the darn things have become too wide for our garage!

The Forester came equipped with the expected modern safety features: lane assist, automatic braking, blind-spot protection, and more. Some of these are legally required now, but I’m not entirely happy with all of them and there are other features I’d like to have.

Self-driving?

I think that dream is more than a few years away. Even the optimistic forecasts of Elon Musk have been dialed back. On July third of 2021 Elon tweeted:

Yeah — nothing like a little reality check, is there? I don’t want a Tesla anyway — no CarPlay!

What we have is good, but

I am more than pleased at the safety features our Forester has. However, they could be better. I’m 73 years old now; my reflexes are not as lightning…
