I was selling large industrial heat exchangers in the mid to late seventies. In 1977, I went into a Radio Shack store to buy batteries and noticed the TRS-80 computer. I asked the clerk if I could write programs on it. He had no idea, but after reading the literature he had, I bought it.

My goal was to write a program that could tell my potential customers if the very expensive heat exchanger could save them enough money to justify the expense. In a few weeks, I had a program that was a good approximation of the time sharing computer I previously had to wait days or weeks for after sending in my data. My TRS-80 Model I traveled with me all over New England and improved my closing time greatly.

Other sales people wanted to do the same thing. When I realized that, I decided that the computer business was my goal. In 1983 I started my consulting business and closed it in 2016.
