I would say that scanning helps me FIND information.

Too many writers have too much to say. They belabor the point. They repeat themselves, drawing the same idea from different perspectives, saying the same thing in different ways.

Just like that paragraph.

I scan those writers. What they have to say may be very interesting and important, but I don't need it drilled into me again and again.
