If Apple is Going to Ditch the iPhone for Mixed Reality Whatevers in Ten Years, I Think They’ll Need Some Powerful Magic Beans
Ten years is a long time in tech, but sheesh!
So it’s now strongly rumored that Apple will be announcing its first headset in 2022 and that they are expected to replace the iPhone with a mixed reality device within ten years.
That’s quite a beanstalk to grow and climb in ten years.
The 2022 device will likely be a lot purtier than anything we’ve seen yet, but I am almost willing to bet my life that it won’t be anything that could replace my iPhone.
Your iPhone, sure, because you don’t mind headaches, neck strain, and the weight of a humongous battery pack, right?
As Adrian Monk would say, here’s the thing: I do believe that by packing this thing with M-whatever chips Apple can make something quite amazing that could set a new standard for this type of device. And yes, Apple Silicon is less power hungry, so maybe you could get through a full day with a battery that wouldn’t ruin your posture. Maybe.
But will anyone walk around with something duck sized on their head? Even if some miracle carbon nano-tube material meant that it was duck feather…
