If We’d Stop Electing Rich People, We and the World Would Be Better Off
Here we are, seemingly on the brink of financial collapse, and our Congress is arguing over how much money it will cost to prevent that. Money? Really? 12.6 million Americans are still unemployed. Families are going deep into debt and may soon lose their homes. Is this the time to worry about the cost? Would we be worrying about cost if we were being bombed by another country?
But the wealthy Congress folk worry about money. It’s not your money they are worried about; it’s their own. They want to protect their wealth and their low taxes. They are not in our demographic and truly do not represent us.
I sometimes almost think that the best way to have a representative democracy is to end elections and instead select our representatives the same way we select juries: pull from a random pool of citizens.
Select, not elect
If a jury pool can decide if an accused murderer is guilty or innocent, surely they can vote on our national interests.
