I’m a 72 year old white male from an affluent community and a life-long liberal.

If anything, I think we are worse now, at least in the sense that in the 70s I felt progress was being made on many fronts and that we were on a path to a better world for everyone. The 70s were not good, they were very troubling, but it seemed that there was more than hope.

Then the progress stopped, but I thought at least we were holding our ground and maybe we could start moving forward again. With Obama, I thought the progress was starting up again.

But then came Trump. From extreme intellect to boorish stupidity in one awful night. It feels now that we are sliding backwards very quickly.
