I’m a little bit worried.

I retired at the end of February and then the market crashed. Oops! Didn’t see that coming, did I?

Well, yeah, I did or at least I had factored it into my calculations. With the resources we had, every different retirement calculator I ran the numbers through said we could live comfortably for at least 30 years or more. I’m 72, my wife is 73, so that’s long enough.

Then I ran the same numbers with a 20% drop on the resource side. The worst result was about 25 years.

In both runs I was conservative on growth, using 4%. For inflation, I used 3%. So I figured things were pretty safe.

And they are, right now. We are definitely ok through the next year, probably beyond. But I’m a teeny bit worried that I should have been more conservative.

I had to retire though. I tire too easily now, it’s harder to learn new things, I’ve had enough. So it is what it is. We may be fine, we may struggle a bit in the future. Shrug. I can’t control everything.
