Xmas

In 2004, Gifts no More!

In 2004, our small family agreed to stop wasting money on Christmas gifts none of us needed or wanted. We still have Christmas, but Gifts No More!

I have a confession. I have not enjoyed Christmas since I was a very young boy.

I do think the decorations are pretty and I like some of the music, though I agree with Tim Minchin that the lyrics can be dodgy.

It’s wonderful to get together with family you may not have seen recently. That’s all very nice.

I never minded spending the money. We never had any financial stress from Christmas.

But there was stress. Heaping ladlefuls of stress, liberally poured on us. Trudging through malls, searching for inspiration, nagged by desperation because there were still gifts unsent. Questions plagued us. What to get for this one, should we still be gifting a niece we never see, when should we put up the tree?
