It's sometimes ignorance. I recently had someone make a legitimate and useful comment and include a link. I told him the link was rude and asked him to remove it.

He apologized, said he didn't know that, and then deleted his whole comment, probably not realizing he could have just edited out the link.

I explained that part to him, but I don't think he understood.
