It’s the repetitive nature of most work that causes this.

I spent 33 years of my life solving computer problems at businesses. A lot of those years were before the Internet, so I traveled. Because I was in different places so frequently, meeting different people, solving different problems. I remember much more about it, and my life feels very long.

Of course I don’t remember much about interstate 90 in Massachusetts because I was on it again and again. But with thousands of different customers with thousands of different problems, I do remember. Not all of them, and not necessarily with full recollection for any of them, but enough stuck in my head that I have strong memories of those decades.
