I’ve Had Enough of Free Speech
Oh, don’t look at me like that. You’ve thought the same thing, or you should have.
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
Haven’t we seen enough? Yes, free speech is important. But we decided a long time ago that free speech doesn’t give you the right to shout “Fire!” in a theatre. More recently, we decided that hate speech is also not acceptable.
Why haven’t we yet realized that lying is also criminal?
Look back over the past four years and see what lies have caused. We’ve let this all happen because we have stupidly let ideals overcome common sense.
Today, you’ll hear people explain that corporations are not bound by the First Amendment. Twitter and Facebook can ban Donald Trump. Apple and Google can remove Parler. Most of us are quite happy that they can.
