REALITY CHECK
Let’s Call It What It Is: Climate Doom
Why be wishy-washy?
I‘m looking forward the news tomorrow. I’m sure it will be full of great stories about the big game. Why they won, what Taylor Swift said, didn’t say, did and didn’t do. Something to talk about with the guys.
You know, the important stuff. The stuff you can have long, meaningful conversations with other people about. The stuff that matters.
Do you know that other people — very boring people, nobody we know — have conversations about pollution, CO2, fossil fuels, and what should have happened but hasn’t happened with global climate agreements? Do you care? None of that can even begin to match the thrills of a football game, even one that was months before the Super Bowl.
Some of those boring people say we are killing ourselves. They say that our poisons, our carbon footprint, our unimaginable waste will destroy us. Some think it will be by disease, by environmental destruction, cataclysm, or heat.
Hey, Honey, bump the thermostat a notch? It’s cooler than I thought it would be.
Depressing stuff, climate change. Did you see that pass or were you stuffing your face with chicken wings? Wasn’t that pass something? And what about Taylor, huh?
