Malls got hurt by COVID, of course, but many were dying before that. I think there aren’t enough anchor stores left who can draw enough people to keep a mall going. Apple is still strong, but Macys is falling away fast. Who else can draw customers now?

As stores close, the mall starts to feel unsafe, too. A crowd feels safer, doesn’t it?

And all that parking real estate must look pretty tasty to the owners.
