Many years ago I was lectured by a medical professional for my obvious poor choices because I had put on, no kidding, ten pounds in a year.

Twenty years back I had my first visit with a new doctor. He looked at my chart, looked at me, and said, in a very judgmental tone, “You need to lose a few pounds.”

He wasn’t wrong, but he wasn’t exactly right. I was about 20 lbs overweight, but I was already dieting and I have dropped 15 of that since then.

But when I looked at him, I saw a man with a Santa Claus belly and drooping jowls! Even his eyelids were fat.

I couldn’t help myself. I laughed and said something like “Really?”

Anyway, I am 74 now, definitely carrying a little more fat than I did as a kid, but that’s healthy, as you noted. And shaming people is not cool no matter what the reason for their weight.
