Sound Recognition

Oh, how wonderful! Not just for the hearing impaired, but also for those of us who get wrapped up in some very important task like wondering if we should clean the oven today or next week and might not notice that the doorbell rang because right then we happened to burn our finger while taking muffins out of the oven and that really hurt!

And custom sounds in IOS 16? Bless your little corporate heart, Apple. We have appliances that make different noises — the fridge dings plaintively if we leave the door ajar too long and the dishwasher cheerily announces its cycle is done, while the washer and dryer make their own special sounds to tell us we should get off our butts and start another load.

So, gosh, yes, sign me up! My wife hears poorly, but cannot wear hearing aides, so this would be a boon for her. And I certainly get distracted and wrapped up in my projects, so it could help me as well. What’s to lose? Some notifications we are already aware of? No big deal.

So, I followed the directions to create a few custom sounds and thought myself quite clever even though Apple did most of the work.
