AGING

My Eyebrows Do Not Hurt

And once we get below the knees, things are pretty good as well.

My eyebrows function every bit as well as they did when I was a young’un. I can raise them, bring them down, or furrow them into a frown with no trouble at all. It’s true that I accidentally cut out a chunk of hair from the left one recently, but that will grow back, and I’d like to think that the gray unsuccessfully hiding in those hairs is, umm, distinguished.

If I scan the rest of my body, things are quite good once I get below my knees. My ankles and feet work flawlessly.

Everything in between, well, it’s not a dumpster fire, but it’s not what it used to be. It all works, albeit sometimes grudgingly, or with twinges and hesitation. At 72, I cannot complain too loudly, as most of the defects are from my own carelessness.

Also, many people have much more reason to complain. I’d seem churlish indeed if I moaned about minor problems when others suffer much more deeply. My small annoyances do not deserve my own attention, never mind yours. I do have a reason for mentioning this, however.

Winter is coming, youngsters. The little injury you shrug off today will return someday to haunt you, to nag you, to awaken you in the night. You’ll be peeing more often and…
