Never?

Never is a long time. One thing that can unite people and countries is a common enemy.

We have several common enemies right now: pollution, global warming, species extinction, pandemics, water shortages, perhaps more. Any of these could become dire enough to join more of us together, first with treaties and pacts, but eventually, our survival may require commonality.
