One thing I’d warn against is smart lightbulbs. It sounds great until it fails (I lost mine to a power surge) because now I have to replace the LED bulb and the smart switch. I’ve had smart switches for years and never lost one,

I don’t recommend cheap smart appliances as their security is weak. I’m 100% HomeKit here. I also avoid anything that requires a hub — extra expense and a single point of failure.
