People Seem Disappointed That The New iMacs “Only” Have The M1 Processor
They shouldn’t be, at least not yet
I have read numerous articles where folks are expressing disappointment that Apple’s new M1 iMacs are using the same chip as the M1 Air and the M1 MacBook Pro.
They may be forgetting that the M1 Air is fanless. If the processor gets pushed hard, the CPU will have to slow down to avoid damage. The M1 Mac Mini, the M1 MacBook Pro, and the M1 iMac have fans.
The Mini and the Pro should be able to outperform the Air under heavier loads, but most benchmarks do not seem to show a large difference, so we might think the iMac will be similar in performance.
That might be true. On the other hand, we don’t yet know the cooling abilities of the dual fan iMac over the single fan Mini and the tighter constraint of the dual fan MacBook Pro.
I expect that at least the iMacs will outperform the other M1 computers under heavy load. I look forward to seeing the benchmarks.
