ANGER MANAGEMENT
Proselytizing and Bullies Made Us Stop Dancing
Because I get worked up
I admit to being easily excitable. Or am I? Maybe the calm, patient ones should pay more attention to what is happening around them while they sit serenely with their arms folded and their legs comfortably crossed.
The over-55 community we live in has a large clubhouse which offers many activities. One that my wife and I used to enjoy was weekend dances. We can’t do that now because my wife’s arthritis has progressed too far, but we quit going years before it had reached that point.
One of the more regular features of the dances is live music. One singer was particularly good and always attracted a big crowd. Unfortunately, she was also pushing her Christian religion in between her songs. That was annoying for us because we are atheists, and it must have annoyed the Jewish and other non-Christians.
We could avoid her easily enough, though at the cost of missing a dance. I don’t think religious proselytizing belongs in a public venue, so I complained to the management. Their answer was short:
“People like her.”
That ticked me off more than she did.
