She’s Too Big For Me and I Don’t Scuba Dive or Climb Mountains Anyway

The new Apple Ultra Watch was not a surprise — it has been rumored for quite a while. The $799 (U.S.) price was a surprise because it came in much lower than expected and seems to be less expensive than competitive devices. That’s an unusual place to find Apple.

Garmin, the big dog for this sort of equipment, doesn’t even have anything that packs in all the features that the Ultra sports. Even some of the pro-Garmin press grudgingly acknowledges that Apple is offering quite a competitive package.

On the other hand, how many people do triathlons, wilderness hikes, and Scuba diving? Like, everything! Some, I’m sure, because scarily fit people do exist, but most of us do one or none of those things, so why would we want such a Swiss Army knife of a sports watch?

Well, a 36-hour battery life is a good starting bid. Some Garmin watches offer days…
