So Many Hate Mark Zuckerberg’s Metaverse yet I Really like the Idea as Long as Mark and Dumb Helmets Aren’t Involved

The Metaverse could be really great

Poor Zuck. The reactions to his Metaverse fantasy seem to be mostly negative. A lot of that might just be reaction to Mark himself; he’s not a lovable coot, is he? Some might just be well justified disgust at presenting complete vaporware in place of a real roadmap and other angst comes from envisioning social problems that this future fantasy world might gift us.

But is it all that bad? Oh, sure, Mark is that bad and more so, I agree. Facebook is a cancer and adding virtual/augmented reality will only feed it, not cure it.

But the concept by itself, surgically removed from Zuck and any other giant money magnet, has great promise.

Forget business meetings

Yes, businesses could have AR meetings in the Metaverse. If this all ever becomes ubiquitous and personally unobtrusive enough, maybe they will. But until then, I suspect Zoom or whoever replaces that junk will be more preferable and efficient.

Games?

Sure, games. We are already well along that road; a Metaverse game would only be…
