So Medium is Priming The Pump Again

Which certainly won’t hurt

Last month, Medium handed out $500 bonuses and they’ve done it again in June.

I assume the intent here is to jazz up everyone; those who got the bonus and those who may have been close.

I didn’t know I was granted the June bonus until I checked my Earnings page. There was no email or notification, which surprises me a bit.

The email came today. It implies (but does not actually say) that bonuses will continue: $500 to the top 1,000 writers, $100 to the 1,001st to the 1,500th, and $50 to the next 500 block down.

I was lucky in May by having two stories that attracted thousands of readers and a few more that were in the mid to high hundreds. I have no doubt it was those posts that made me eligible.

Stats:

28 stories, average reads 349 (I had a 4.6k and a 3.2k mixed in, it would be 76 without those two), average fans (people who clapped) 13, and the average read ratio was 59%. I think that without the two high volume posts I would not have made the cut.

Does it jazz me up to do more? Nope, because I write what I want, when I want. The $500 is nothing to sneeze at, but it can’t change my behavior because I am already doing the best I can as often as I can.
