Money begets money. In other words, the more you have, the easier it is to get more. Social position can also determine success: being born to wealthy parents almost guarantees later success: you have to work hard to screw that up.

There are few handicaps granted in life. If you start the race at the back of the pack, you may get ahead of some people, but you need to be incredibly fast to get ahead of those who were already a mile ahead when they started.
