Success Is Not a Pile of Money
Pursuing wealth is a literal dead end
Why do we want money?
We all seem to want money. All but a tiny number of the most ascetic of us will admit to that without hesitation. Our justifications vary; we will say we need money for this thing or that, but very few of us ever set the needs out for critical examination. Few of us devote much effort to meeting those needs in any way other than accumulating money.
Some of us hoard money. Although hoarding is frowned upon in almost every other instance, the hoarding of wealth is celebrated and admired. Few of us admire a person whose home is literally stuffed with old newspapers or hungry cats, but billionaires are admired and feted. The reason is simple enough: we don’t want a pile of dusty newspapers or a hundred cats, but we do want money. Yet, the hoarding of money is as much of a mental disorder as the hoarding of anything else.
Let’s look at some of our excuses for piling up money. By the way, I have a good sized pile of it myself; more on that later.
Possessions
We need money to have a nice home. Ideally, we’d like a good looking home, in a “good” neighborhood, with good schools for our kids if we have any, and nearby conveniences like…
