A personal note: I started a pub recently where I strongly specified that submissions must have a personal slant: opinion, personal experience, something.

Yet I have to reject many submissions because there was none of that present.

People need to read what the publishers want. Don’t submit a story about French wine to Iberospherical. Don’t give Crows Feet a story on teenage angst.
